Christmas is usually the time when people celebrate. Celebrations take place through the time-honored exchange of gifts, time with family and friends, and good food. And while there are tons of restaurants you can go to for your Christmas meal, few stand out like Christmas at Mezze Wine Bar and Bistro at Medan Damansara.


With their specially introduced Christmas menu created just for the season of ho ho hos, Mezze promises to make this Christmas an unforgettable one for your palate. I was invited to taste their Christmas menu a few days ago, and until now, I still can't get the feeling of Christmas out of my system.


For one, the choice of starters were amazing. Out of the three Christmas starters, you had to choose just one. So it's sort of like choosing your first Pokemon, only more delicious.

The Terrine De Foie Gras served with Mango Chutney and Fig Bread was something out of a Christmas dream come true.

Have you ever tried to spread foie gras on crusty bread, and top it all off with mango chutney? Well, I have, and I can say that the mix of the richly flavorful foie gras was well complimented by the tangy mango chutney for an appetizer that actually opens you up for more.

If foie gras and mango chutney aren't your Christmas miracles, give the Mille Feuille Smoked Salmon with Lemon Mascarpone a go.

If that name doesn't make much sense to you (it sure didn't to me!), this appetizer is basically slices of raw salmon filled with a lemon mascarpone mix. Toast is provided, so if you're into spreading things on bread, you may want to opt to spread your salmon and lemon mascarpone all over a toasted bread for a tangy zing. This is definitely an appetizer for salmon lovers.

If all that tanginess isn't up your alley, you would definitely want to go for the Leek, Roquefort, Escargot Stew in Puff Pastry.

Imagine a hearty stew packed with a full flavor of leeks and escargot and roquefort (a kind of blue cheese). It's what Santa Claus would want every time he jumps down your chimney. I kid you not. So children, let you parents know that Santa would very much want this dish sitting on the table.

The mains provide you with another headache to choose from. There is a selection of 3 mains to satisfy your tummy for Christmas morning.

No Christmas dinner is complete without gobbling (sorry) up a turkey. Mezze's Turkey Roulade with Apple, Cranberry and Pecan Stuffing might be just what you're looking for.

Personally, I don't like turkey meat because it's basically a dryer version of chicken breast. Mezze's preparations for the turkey isn't as dry as you would expect turkey to be, and the mixture of sauces and the apple, cranberry, pecan stuffing does give it a unique taste.

If turkey isn't your meat of choice, why not go for some lamb? Mezze's Lamb Loin crusted with Black Olives is just the thing for you.

Served on a bed of couscous, the lamb is cooked to absolute perfection; perfectly tender and juicy, which is how lamb should taste like.There isn't even a hint of the lambiness smell that turns most people off eating lamb. Combine that with the side of chutney rolls and an appetizing salad, this is one main you can consider trying out if you're into the Christmas spirit.

For those of you who prefer your mains straight from the sea, give the Pan Fried Sea Bass with Buttered Spinach, Clams and Poached Prawns a try.

Regret is a word I would use to describe not having more of this main dish because the seabass was perfectly fried. The ratio of crispy skin and succulent flesh is perfectly balanced to give you a real taste of the sea. Pair that up with the buttered spinach, clams and prawns just rounded off a fantastic seafood dish that would satisfy almost any seafood loving person.

What is a Christmas dinner without the desserts? Mezze offers a choice (there it is again!) of 2 wildly different Christmas themed desserts, of which I had the opportunity to try.

The Chocolate Christmas Yule Log is a classic Christmas dessert.

A lot of liberty was given into making the dessert look like an actually log, but luckily the taste remains delicious. With a center filled with vanilla ice cream, and covered in a layer of chocolate mousse and chocolate sauce covering it liberally, it was truly a great way to ring the Christmas feels in.

The Red Fruit Pavlova with Balsamic Vinegar Reduction is your other choice, and for me, it was my personal favorite dessert among the two.

I'm usually not much of a pavlova guy but the meringue was done up so fluffily that it was like eating clouds. The fruits and berries sprinkled on top of the pavlova gave it the flavor of Christmas, and wow, I already miss it already.

So if you're looking for a good time to this Christmas Eve, head on down to Mezze Wine Bar and Bistro to get your Christmas mood on. The Christmas Eve menu is only available on Christmas Eve (24th December 2016). Reservations are definitely required and the price is set at RM160++ per person.

But how do I make merry without some wine on Christmas Eve, you ask? Well, Mezze's got you covered. Being a wine bar (it's right there in the name), Mezze offers you a choice of their house wines for an additional RM140++ for 4 glasses. Sipping on a glass of wine with your significant other will make Christmas all that more memorable.


Trust me. It's the perfect way of spending your Christmas Eve; good food, good wine and good ambiance.
